First edition, presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To my brother John Middleton Murry / Waldo Frank / London 1937." The prolific author Murry (1889-1957) is remembered for his association with his wife Katherine Mansfield, and his friendships with D. H. Lawrence and T. S. Eliot. In Frank's novel, a tobacco executive tries to create order between farmers and workers.
