The photograph shows Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller, and John Huston, on the set of their film The Misfits, directed by Huston from a screenplay by Miller, and which starred Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable (in his last film performance), Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter, and Eli Wallach. In the photo, Huston, Monroe, and Miller (left to right) are sitting next to one another on canvas director’s chairs, engaged in conversation. Miss Monroe is wearing a terry cloth robe and has the script open on her lap. The Misfits is a complex drama that was the last film for it’s two lead actors, Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable which explores the relationship between a fragile divorcee (Monroe) and a brooding cowboy past his prime (Gable). When this photograph was taken, Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe were married, with their divorce coming the following year - January, 1961. (Inventory #: 16858E)
