1976 · [Brooklyn, NY]
Dimensions of the frame are 17 3/4 inches wide by 25 inches high, with the original art extending almost to the margins. Not examined out of frame, but in nice condition with a few spots observed. The related Bantan book was published by Theo. Gaus' Sons, Brooklyn, NY in 1976. On the dust jacket flap, the author Maurice B. Gardner noted that three of the segments in this novel were from his previous work Bantan Incredible from 1960.
Gardner was a Maine author, and some of his correspondence and books can be found in the Maine State Library. Prosser was an illustrator for various books including Dragons and Nightmares by Robert Bloch (1968) and "Is The Devil A Gentleman?" by Seabury Quinn (1970) both from Mirage Press. While interior artwork is more often seen in the marketplace, the front cover artwork is much rarer and commands a premium because it was what sold the book. Very "Tarzan like in feel, an interesting and action-filled image. As often the case with original book illustration the actual artwork is much larger than the published image. In this case, it makes for an action-filled ready to hang image.
We have included an image of the book as it was published, but the book is NOT included - just the original artwork. (Inventory #: 28051)
