Hardcover binding with minimal shelfwear and moderate sunning to a thin strip at the top edge. The unclipped dustjacket has minor shelfwear and rubbing to the extremities, with a staple perforation and small scuff on the front panel; protected in archival mylar. A few small spots of discoloration to the closed page edges. Signed and inscribed on the title page in ink in the year of publication by the author "for Arnold Bernhard with best wishes [signed] John McPhee April 10, 1967" on title page. Stated "first printing." Arnold Bernhard (1901-1987) is maybe best known for founding investment company and publisher Value Line, but he continued his literary interests by combining with W. H. Auden, Jacques Barzun and Lionel Trilling in founding the Mid-Century Book Society. First edition, with "First Printing, 1967" on the copyright page..
