by Bunting, Josiah
213 pp. Light creasing to the jacket. Inscribed to Jay and Louie Howland and signed by the author. Howland was a long time editor for Little, Brown publishers and later became a rare book dealer specializing in maritime books. Lionheads is a novel about the war in Vietnam. Bunting has had a remarkable military career and The Lionheads is his first work of fiction.
Also included are two letters from Bunting to Howland. The first written from the U.S. Naval College likely in 1974 appears to be a response to Howland about writing a autobiography. This is typed and is signed in ink. The second letter is in Bunting's hand is a thank you for advice given by Howland to Bunting.
The third letter is in Howland's hand and is dated 1973 offering his opinion to Bunting of the publisher of The Lionhead asking the author for $2000 to help advertise the book. Presumably this is a retained copy. (Inventory #: 143)
