Edward Curtis Franklin [1862-1927] taught chemistry at Stanford University and was president of the American Chemical Society in 1923, the first from Stanford. He grew up in Kansas and got his degrees in chemistry at Kansas University, where he met his wife, Effie Scott. "This is a sort of guide-book or introduction to Florence, both for those who actually are coming or have come to it, and for those who can come only in the spirit.
