Both the music and the song text, by Italian poet Augusto Garsia (1889-1956), were written to celebrate the achievement of pioneering Italian aviator and native of Lucca, Carlo Del Prete (1897-1928). Del Prete, together with Francesco de Pinedo and Vitale Zacchetti, completed a record-breaking flight over four continents on June 16, 1927.
