Softcover
Good. Softcover. Day-book of a general store in Cheshire dated to 1864. We believe this day-book to be from Cheshire, Connecticut as it was acquired with other Connecticut material. Decorative green wraps read "Blank Books Adapted to Fulton and Eastman's Book-Keeping
" Paginated 4-26. Text block is detached from wraps, possibly missing the first few pages. Wraps have moderate soiling and were at one time folded in half. This was likely the account book from a general store in Cheshire, although no specifics are given about the business except for items sold. It is possible that the accounts were being reviewed as the dates written at the top of the book, October 31st, 1864 to November 23rd do not correspond with customers' purchases dated January 31st to March 31st. Also the book contains two sections. Pages 4-11 are dated January 31st to March 31st and then pages 12-25 are dated January 1st to March 31st; these entries are not duplicates. Account book records the date, name of customer, items purchased, price and total cost, all written in a clear hand. Example: "Jan. 1 Hiram Mann, 2 ½" yards broadcloth, 1 ½" yards silk serge, 1 doz. Large buttons, ½" dozen small buttons
total amount 10.25."; "Jan. 3rd William F. Ashley 15 lbs shugar[sic], 1 oz nutmegs, 1 oz cloves." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . (Inventory #: 022060)
