[xx], 260 pages of text, followed by [xxiv] page index, [i] page for a recipe to cure gout, [i] blank, followed by another work also by Bacon; [iv], 47 pages, [i] blank, [ii] pages of text comprising "NEW ATLANTIS. A Worke unfinished." New quarter leather binding with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered leather spine label, and marbled paper-covered boards. Illustrated with a frontisportrait of Bacon, and an engraved title page (in addition to the printed title page). Head pieces, initials are the printer's mark of John Haviland (McKerrow, no. 392). The first and final few pages are somewhat soiled and stained, with an occasional ink mark and small crease. The pages are slightly wavy, without exposure to moisture.
