Near fine in nicked black cloth slipcase and latter housed in worn matching box with chipped green spine label. 3 vols. Pagination as per titles noted above and provided retrospectively -- [2], viii, [2] 58 pp. + 42 numbered engraved plates. Engraved frontis. [2]. v. [1] 50 pp. + seven double-page engraved plates; [2], 5-62 pp. + 2 double-page plates, [2] 16 pp. + 2 double=page plates. [5], 27, [1] pp. + 8 numbered engraved plates. All three works are 13" x 10." Each title signed by the author on front blank and dated September 1, 1888. Volumes herein, despite title page dates were printed circa 1870's/1880's based upon dated water marks of Whatman paper on which most plates are engraved. First title with engraved frontispiece of Minerva, additional engraved title. First work contains a 49 page Appendix To The Mathematical Instruction To Constructing Models Draping The Human Figure." Laid-in at front cover of "Anthropometry," a 19 page 11 x 7 cm, pamphlet on cream stock; "Attendo To Dr. Wampen's Works And Other Small Observations From The Author's Own Dictation." London. Boone. Nd. Price of 1s, 6d. pertaining to the human anatomy, unclothed parts of the human body (legs, feet, etc.). Charles Wood, III in notes to the first edition of Mathematical Instruction states: "Wampen, who was a professor of mathematics, is credited with being the first to publish a system of cutting based on the application of principles of geometry to the measurement of the body intended for the purposes of tailoring, and also intended equally for sculptors, painters, artists as well as master tailors. Not in Colas, Lipperheide, or Hiler. A very unusual book." Interior contents clean and fresh, some light soiling.
