Broadside
Copyrighted By the Los Angeles Examiner. Good. Broadside. Broadside measures 21 ½" x 31 ½". Moderate chipping to edges, dampstaining and soiling, and 8 closed tears (one tear is 1" long all others are ¼" or less). No publication date. In the lower left corner the broadside reads: "Here in Las Vegas, Nevada... the gateway through which the millions of dollars and thousands of men will go...is your opportunity for profitable investments. Compliments of the Boulder Realty Corporation."This broadside depicts a detailed bird's-eye view of the Boulder (Hoover) Dam and the reservoirs around it. There are helpful insets for the layman to gauge the massive amount of water stored, the height of the dam, land irrigable and a comparison of the dam with the Panama Canal. The proposed location of the Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City can be seen; the Hotel was completed in 1933. The Union Pacific Railway branch to the Dam is also pictured. The city of Las Vegas had lobbied hard to be the headquarters for the dam construction, but Secretary of the Interior Ray Wilbur announced in early 1930 that a model city was to be built in the desert near the dam site. This town became known as Boulder City, Nevada. Even though Las Vegas wasn't chosen as the headquarters it was still "the Gateway" to the Boulder Dam Project as boldly printed on this promotional. A unique broadside perfect for the collector of Hoover Dam material. We could not find any records of this item on OCLC or at auction. . (Inventory #: 022108)
