Brownwood, TX: The American Paperback Institute. c 1981. First Edition; First Printing. Spiral bound. Plastic comb-bound 11 x 17" sheets printed on rectos only with cover, title page and one page per month. Very good The right edge shows wear, shallow chipping and creased lower corner. Each page has two illustrations of classic paperback covers, printed in red and black, like Gerald Gregg's cover for Dell's Dead Yellow Women, by Dashiell Hammett. Usually there is text about each of the two artists involved in that month's cover illustration, but sometimes it's one longer text about a single author. The page for October illustrates an unusual feature use by Popular Library for nine years. A drawing of the front cover is reduced in size and used as a title page illustration. October displays 15 of these small drawings. Each month has a list of birthdays of people involved in the collectible paperback world. Imprints represented include Dell mapbacks, Popular Library, Dell First Editions, Pocket Book, Penguin, Armed Services and Signet. Signet and Penguin are over-represented leaving no room for Avon, Lion Ace and so many more, but the compilers were headlining artists, not imprints.; Folio 13" - 23" tall; 13 pp .
