Athens OH: Ohio University College of Fine Arts / Athens Center for Film and Video. Near Fine. (c.1988). (Vol. 10, No. 1). Journal. [a nice clean copy with faint handling wear only]. (B&W photographs) This issue of this respected academic film journal is devoted to case histories of the development and production of a several films of the 1930s and 1940s, with a focus on the workings of the Hollywood studio system. The films (and studios) thus examined are: BLONDE VENUS (Paramount, 1932; directed by Josef von Sternberg); JEZEBEL (Warner Bros., 1938; directed by William Wyler); THE LONG VOYAGE HOME (United Artists, 1940; directed by John Ford); JANE EYRE (20th Century-Fox, 1943; directed by Robert Stevenson; much of this article is devoted to the project's initial development by producer David O. Selznick); DECEPTION (Warner Bros., 1946; directed by Irving Rapper). There is also an "added attraction," unrelated to the overall theme of the issue: a "dialogic analysis" of the TV series NEWHART, based on a single episode of the show from 1986. .
