Maude Hadden, with her husband Alexander Mectier Hadden, founded the Institute of World Affairs in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1921. The IWA moved to the United States in 1941 at the outbreak of World War II. The IWA is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization working across cultural and political boundaries to advance creative approaches to conflict analysis, conflict management, and post-conflict peace-building. Founded by the Haddens in 1932, and still in existence today, the Palm Beach Round Table expanded the cultural life of the small Florida town by bringing in national and world-renowned luminaries and speakers. This title explains the evolution of the earth from its original pre-planetary state of swirling gases to its present state; the latest theories of the birth of the planets; the making of oceans; and the movement of continents.
