Helena, Montana, 1883. Very good. Document, printed in red (355 x 145 mm). Minor creasing. Signed by Russell B. Harrison, C.S.S, Assayer in Charge. "[Ed. 10-5-'82-2,000] Stereo's" printed below bottom left border. Scarce and unusual Montana relic, recording the deposit in the U.S. Assay Office 88.22 ounces of gold bullion by Henry Elling, yielding $1,081.15 in gold and $31.10 in silver. This U.S. Assay Office operated from 1874-1933. The document was completed in manuscript at Helena. A reproduction of a similar Montana "Memorandum of Gold Bullion Deposited at the United States Assay Office" is given in the Nov. 1904 issue of Mines and Minerals (vol. XXV, p. 194).
