Nuremburg: Homann, Johann Baptist. unbound. Engraving. Circa 1716. Image measures 15" x 11" This portrait of Johann Baptist Homann was engraved by Johann Wilhelm Winter after Johann Kenckel. He is depicted sitting in a library with a map, holding dividers in his hand. Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724) was a renowned German mapmaker of the late 17th and early 18th century, including being geographer to the Holy Roman Emperor. His business was carried on by the Homann Heirs, also prolific and popular mapmakers. (Inventory #: 299642)
