New York: Dodd, Mead & Company. Very Good- in Fair dj. 1942. First Edition. Hardcover. [a good sound book, but with rather heavy shelfwear to the bottom edge (boards exposed at several points), very slight bumping to a couple of corners, faint foxing/discoloration to endpapers, a little soiling to bottom of text block; the jacket is heavily edgeworn, with bits of paper loss here and there at edges and corners, long diagonal closed tear in upper left area of front panel, fading to spine, etc.]. (B&W photographic plates) The first of two autobiographical reminiscences by this popular author, primarily known as writer of travel books. Spanning a period of fifty years, it's "the true, the tender and the very funny record of an actual family of boys and girls who were blessed with a dynamic and witty mother and a picturesque and impulsive father"; the family lived in Wellesley (Massachusetts) in the winter, and on Cape Cod in the summer. An unaccountably uncommon book; does Agnes Rothery have a cult following? (Note that the uncredited jacket illustration of the Rothery clan is slightly reiminscent of the Addams Family.) .
