LaBorde's Tribute is a detailed biography of O'Neall, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. He was born in Newberry County, graduated from South Carolina College, admitted to the Bar in 1814, elected to the South Carolina legislature two years later, and served as a judge for 35 years, ending as Chief Justice. Temperance was a major interest, and he zealously promoted abstention from alcohol; he was the first president of the G&C Railroad Company, and a Major General in the Militia.
