by Notley, Alice
(New York): Frontward Books, 1977. Very good plus.. First edition of Notley's uncommon sixth collection, mimeographed "at The Poetry Project, New York City, in an edition of 350." Frontward Books was Bob Rosenthal and Rochelle Kraut's late-seventies mimeo press. They would later recall: "In some ways, mimeo publishing poetry books was an outgrowth of the War in Korea, where corporal Ted Berrigan had run the mimeo machine in his unit, later producing his own magazine 'C' using the new skill of mimeography. I was in Chicago just starting to write poetry and Ted was teaching at Northwestern University, where I sat in somewhat shyly on his classes." Notley dedicated this book to Berrigan, who went on to encourage Rosenthal and Kraut to found their press. 11'' x 8.5''. Side stapled original pictorial wrappers, designed and individually hand-painted by Rochelle Kraut. [30] pages. One of 350 unnumbered copies. Mild toning to extremities, touches of edgewear. Small stain to rear wrapper. Else clean and sound.
