Single folded sheet formed as a brochure/flyer for the Bay Ridge Park Improvement Company operating in the field of property development, containing: a color folding map of Brooklyn sourced from the Brooklyn Eagle Almanac, showing ward numbers, rail lines, "steam roads", and municipal buildings; a smaller two-color map highlighting the location of Bay Ridge Park within Brooklyn and marking the ferry lines to New York and the elevated, and surface car lines to the bridge and ferries; and the back panel noting "3,000 choice building sites" and amenities such as location, soil, drainage, water, gas, electricity, shade trees, the sea, and sidewalks. 8vo., approx. 5 3/8" x 8 1/4" size, folded. Some minor discoloration along edge, closed tear along bottom edge of larger map, overall very good. Brookly, New York (The Bay Ridge Park Improvement Company) n.d. (circa 1893). The approximate given date of this flyer comes from the presence on the larger map of the electric trolley line running from the ferry terminal at 39th Street down Second Avenue. This trolley line was built in 1892. Prior to this development, Bay Ridge was a fairly isolated area, but the introduction of the electric trolleys served to raise real estate prices. The Bay Ridge Improvement Company was able to buy large areas of land in 1890 and sell it as lots only several years later for several times the price. As of July 2021, we could not find any listings on OCLC of this brochure.
