Gently spine-sunned, lightly edgeworn, with cloth showing some faint, scattered soil, and a few tiny nicks to the title label; short tear with attendant wrinkling to lower edge of front pastedown, with title page partially separated, and an old, faint splash mark to upper edge of textblock; complete, but Very Good only. Second edition of Sanborn's 1885 volume detailing the life and death of his friend John Brown, including a generous selection of his letters. Sanborn (1831-1917) was an American journalist and abolitionist, one of the "Secret Six" who funded Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry.
