Originally published in 2 volumes in 1855, Bonner added Vol. III in 1866 in response to R.G. Horton's "A Youth's History of the Great Civil War in the United States, from 1861 to 1865", which was pro-South, pro-state rights, pro-slavery, anti-Republican Party, and anti-Abraham Lincoln.
