Books measure 14" x 18.5". Publisher's three quarter brown morocco, raised bands, title in gilt on spines. Top edge gilt. Rubbed lower edges. Text blocks solid. A complete set with 145 photogravure plates, all in near fine condition. An attractive set. John Alfred Gotch (1852-1942) was a notable English architect and architectural historian. His other works include: The Old Halls & Manor-Houses of Northamptonshire (1936), The Growth and Work of the Royal Institute of British Architects, 1834-1934, Inigo Jones (1928), The Growth of the English House : a short history of its architectural development from 1100 to 1800 (1928) and The Original Drawings for the Palace at Whitehall attributed to Inigo Jones (1912). A second edition of this work was published in 1914, titled Early Renaissance Architecture in England.
