In brown cloth, titled in gilt on spine; tan coated endpapers; [iv], [ix]-xxii, [24]-353pp. With occasional pencil marks and annotations, and two ownership inscriptions by Alice Douglas Adam, M.D. A straight copy, much rubbed, two-inch split to lower hinge, losses to cloth and head, tail, and corners: Good.
Scott dedicates the biography to "Mothers and Daughters of the Pacific," saying that "the mightiest human power on earth, for good and for evil, is lodged in woman's hand" and that the "Sacred Scriptures alone. . . have fully comprehended and rightly understood woman's mission" ([vii]).
Dr. Alice Douglas Adam of California (1863-1851) is mentioned twice in the San Francisco Examiner: on 11 May 1906 as a new graduate from Cooper Medical College, and on October 19 1911 as one of the first women in California registering to vote. NOT IN SINGERMAN. (Inventory #: 55620)
