by Carrière, Auguste. [Khalatyants, Gr[igor], trans?]
Vienna: Mkhitaryan Press, 1898. First Armenian edition, 8vo, pp. 7, [1], 56; gray printed paper wrappers; wrappers chipped, light edge toning, unopened, very good. No. 27 in the Azgayin matenadaran series. A translation of Carriere's Nouvelles sources de Moïse de Khoren: Études critiques, 1893. Movses Khorenatsi was a 9th-century Armenian historian, sometimes referred to as the Armenian Herodotus. In the early 20th-century, study of him took a turn for the hypercritical, where scholars (Carriere and Khalatyants among them) cast doubt on the authenticity or originality of Movses' work. His reputation has since been revived. Armenian Institute only on OCLC. (Inventory #: 59305)
