American intellectual and critic Lionel Trilling's copy from his estate with his signature on the front free endpaper. Like Kuhn Trilling was a historian of ideas (though more oriented towards literature) and a defender of "the moral obligation to be intelligent," as one of his better-known essays was titled. Near Fine, slight smudge to Trilling's signature, light wear, text free of markings. In Good+ dust jacket with chip to bottom front corner of front panel, toning and light wear.
