[9x6 "]), seven volumes, illustrations, original three-quarter black morocco and blue cloth, spines richly tooled in gold, raised bands, top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed, blue endpapers, ribbon markers (binding by the Riverside Press). Limited edition. A standard edition of Sterne's works comprising THE LIFE & OPINIONS OF TRISTRAM SHANDY, GENTLEMAN (volumes I-III), A SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY THROUGH FRANCE & ITALY [with other material] (volume IV), LETTERS OF LAURENCE STERNE (volume V), and THE SERMONS OF MR YORICK (volumes VI-VII). Working in the tradition of William Morris, one of the two presses at Shakespeare Head having been owned by the Kelmscott Press, A. H. Bullen produced finely printed work from handset type. This set was published under the auspices of Bullen's successor B. H. Newdigate, Bullen having died in 1920. Tiny scuff to a raised band on volume V, a fine set. (#160554)
