New York: D. Appleton-Century Company. Good in Good dj. (c.1945). First Edition. Hardcover. [modest shelfwear, some light discoloration along left side of front cover and surrounding spine ends; jacket is edgeworn with various small nicks and tears, minor paper loss at extremities, a bit of insect-nibbling along top edge of rear panel]. Potboiler about a "spoiled, sophisticated" New York actress who comes back to her small Southern hometown, only to discover that her old boyfriend Steve is about to be married -- to her younger sister, Bridgie! So that gets broken up, the older sister marries the guy, and the younger sister (on the rebound) marries the guy's friend, a young Navy lieutenant. "But Bridgie cannot get Steve out of her mind," uh-oh. "How Bridgie meets the problem of being married to one man and in love with another, and how she eventually achieves real happiness is the theme of this unusual novel of family life today." (Sorry -- "family life"?) Anyway, you only really picked this one out because of the title and the cover, am I right? Hm? . (Inventory #: 27363)
