1873-1885. Half Calf. Marbled boards. . Good. 1870s. Folio, 35 by 25 cm. Unpaginated, 111 leaves, with photos, many albumen, programs, handwritten notes, clippings, etc. mounted on almost all the leaves and even the majority of pages. The keeper of this album hailed from Boston but traveled to Europe and attended the theater and opera often, with casts of performers famous to this day, among them, Edwin Booth, Christine Nilsson, Charlotte Cushman, Helena Modjeska, Sarah Bernhardt, Victor Maurel, Tomaso Salvini, Italo Campanini, Adelina Patti, Forbes Robertson, Henry Irving, Joseph Jefferson, etc. etc. With over a hundred albumen prints, including six of Edwin Booth. Performanances represented occurred in Boston, New York, London, Paris, Florence and Barcelona. Three albumen photos of Bernhardt, two of Joseph Jefferson, two of Modjeska, etc. Condition: rebacked. Leaves are browned, and a fair amount of crinkling, as to be expected with the acidic paper stock. Photos and clippings in well-preserved state. (Inventory #: 007090)
