Ian Fleming, a keen birdwatcher living in Jamaica, was familiar with Bond's book, and chose the name of its author for the hero of Casino Royale (1953), apparently because he wanted a name that sounded 'as ordinary as possible'. It was not until 1964 that he met with the real Bond and his wife in Jamaica, where Fleming presented him with a signed pre-publication copy of You Only Live Twice. (Inventory #: 6589)
