Predicts a clash between rich and poor, labor and capital, with the rise of unions: "Everyone knows that the incomes of the very rich are becoming more enormous, while the number of those who have no surplus to save is steadily increasing....Under this inequality, labor and capital are becoming mutually difiant the theory that the laborer is to be kept in his place is not meeting another, that capital has no right which labor is bound to respect."
