Lucas, an Irish politician and Dublin native, published The Great Charter in the midst of his campaign for one of Dublin's parliamentary seats, along with two tracts on the political constitutions of Great Britain and Ireland. His outspoken Irish nationalism, evident in the introduction to the present work and his other writings, ultimately resulted in his exile from political life for several years. The Great Charter was reissued in 1749 under the same imprint but without the errata leaf; another edition appeared in 1770. OCLC and the ESTC locate 2 copies of this issue in North America, both at the University of Illinois. English Short-Title Catalogue (ESTC) T200365.
