Washington DC, 1880. One-page letter, in a secretary's hand but signed by Bancroft, dated December 4th with a note of receipt Dec 8th. Bancroft asks about the safest way to send chapters of his History to the press, and asks to delay the electrotyping as long as possible "that I may have more opportunity for consulting my friends on various points. The matter will come to you so thoroughly revised that I shall make very large savings for you in the matter of corrections." Old folds, some toning, very good. Geroge Bancroft served as a US diplomat and statesman. His ten-volume History of the United States earned him the title of "father of American history." (Inventory #: 60641)
