One (left) stands full-face, arms folded, shoulders hunched, staring to the right with fierce despair. From his pocket issues a bulky document: 'By Law I'm Ruin'd quite'. The other (right) stands in profile to the left, his left hand in his coat-pocket from which hang papers inscribed: 'Spent all my Money & Lost my Cause'; 'Mortgage'; 'Officer's Fees'.
