Scotch Plains, NJ: Flanders Hall, 1941. Paperback. 116 page paperback, chip at top of spine panel, otherwise generally light shelfwear; penciled list of names and page numbers on rear endpaper. A critique of the British ruling class, originally published in Germany in 1940, here reprinted by the pro-German propagandist George Sylvester Viereck through his Flanders Hall imprint. Much of the text is based on Simon Haxey's book "Tory MP," published in the US as "England's Money Lords." ("Simon Haxey" was the pseudonym used by Arthur and Peggy Wynn; somewhat ironically for a book used for Nazi propaganda, Arthur Wynn had been a recruiter for the KGB). In addition to the intrinsically insidious character of the English upper crust, we are led to believe, they have moreover been infiltrated by "alien" elements whose identity is meant to be obvious. Renewed attention has been drawn to Viereck by Rachel Maddow in her 2022 podcast "Ultra," about pro-Nazi propagandists in the period leading up to WWII. (Inventory #: 294891)
