Hardcover bindings; leather spines and marbled paper-covered boards with minor shelfwear and rubbing, with a small crack to the rear hinge of the second volume. The bindings are attractive and sound, though not fancy, with leather spine labels. Both volumes are complete with half-titles. Illustrated with many hundred engravings on wood (in black & white) from designs by Raffet and Horace Vernet. Minor foxing to a few preliminary and final pages. The second volume contains two extra tipped-in engravings by H. Vizetelly. Vol. I: xii, 379 pages of text. Vol. II: x, 510 pages of text followed by [i] page of publisher's advertisement. At the end of Vol. II is another work with a separate tile page titled "The Second Funeral of Napoleon Bonaparte: Including an Account of the Exhumation of His Remains at St. Helena; and their Conveyance in the Belle Poule to France. Illustrated by the Artists who Accompanied the Expedition." Printed by Robert Tyas, London: 1841; 1st edition. 28 pages of text, followed by 12 portraits. This work is followed by another work, with half-title page, titled "Fac-similes of Napoleon's Various Signatures, with Explanations of Them Copied by Permission from the Extraordinary Collection in the Possession of Mr. Sainsbury." This final work is 12 pages in length. Previous owner's name on front endpaper of one volume, and noticably eradicated from the other volume. Each volume measures almost 10 inches in height..
