By Bischoff, C[hristian H E] - REBIRTH of GERMAN MILITARY MEDICINE
Elberfeld: Leipziger Oster-Messe bei Heinrich Buschler ...., 1815. First Edition. Contemporary pressed paper boards with blue glazed paper covering and gilt stamping.. Very good; some spotting to the front board; some wear along the front joint.. 8vo, xlii, [1] - 620, [2 - errata] pp. + 5 large folding charts & tables.

A handsome, little known book; printed for the military. Bischoff presents a minute analysis of the army's medical practices and organization during the Napoleonic period (something he feels had spanned 30 yrs.) with suggestions for qualitative and quantitative changes in the post war era. This is in preparation for making fundamental changes and suggestions to practices and organization now that German independence had been re-established. Rarely are such plans presented in print and with such scale and organization. The imprint is most unusual, hinting at a limited distribution and print run. See Hirsch, I, 550; OCLC has a handful of copies in European institutions, none in America.
