B. Rembolt for J. Petit. Early Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Full modern calf with the remains of the original, elaborately tooled, 16th century binding pasted on top. Title with paper repair in upper margin, woodcut coat of arms of dedicatee on verso of title. Light but persistent dampstain through most of volume, old notes to title and a few marginal notes in a contemporary hand, hole in the margin not touching text to cxix and cxx. (viii), CLI, leaves. In a modern morroco box, worn in a few spots. The binding has similarities to one of Jehan Compains (Gruel Manuel p71)
Raulin (1443-1514) was, according to prolific novelist and scholar Sabine Baring-Gould, considered a great preacher in his day and a man of incorruptible virtue, though his "style is wholly devoid of eloquence".
