According to Coyle (Ohio Authors), Orlando J. Hodge "was born in Hamburg, N.Y. He worked his passage on a lake boat to Cleveland in 1842, and after serving in the Mexican War he attended Geauga Seminary. During the Civil War he lived in Litchfield, Conn. and served two terms in the Connecticutt legislature. In 1867 he returned to Cleveland, where he held various political positions and was owner-editor of the Sun and Voice, 1878-1889." There was a later additional volume of reminiscences published in 1910. This volume includes Hodge's memory of seeing Lincoln in Cleveland at the time of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. .
