The full printed text of the memorial sermon delivered by Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom Joseph Herman Hertz (1872-1946) to honor the life and work of Russian-British Rabbi Moses Avigdor Chaikin (1852-1928), delivered on Thursday, June 28th 1928 at the Great Synagogue of London. Chaikin had been a prominent figure in the British Jewish community, since being expelled from Russia in 1890. In 1892 he was appointed rabbi of the New Hebrew Congregation in Sheffield, in 1901 he was appointed Chief Minister of the British Federation of Synagogues, and beginning in 1911 served as dayan of the London Beth Din. The printed text of the Sermon includes some Hebrew text, Also included is a b/w photographic reproduction of a portrait of Chaikin. Laid in at the front is a loose printed sheet from the Office of the Chief Rabbi, stating "With the Chief Rabbi's Compliments". Wrappers and interior in near fine condition overall. Protected in modern mylar.
