Rome: Carlo Barbiellini for Fausto Amidei al Corso, 1765. leather_bound. Contemporary brown calf spine and marbled boards. Very good. Small folio, 71 pages. Thirty-one full-page engraved plates. First published in 1563, and reprinted numerous times; the Fowler Collection has thirty-nine editions. It was as influential in France as Palladio was in England. Text in Italian and Latin. Title vignette, floriated initials, and tailpieces. Illustration on title page is a reduced copy of the 1563 edition, "Regola delli cinque ordini d'architettuar di Jacomo Barozzio da Vignola." [see: FOWLER 351 for description of the first edition]. Of the forty plates in the original edition, all except nos. XIII, XV,XXI,XXII,XXXI,XXXVI, and XXVIII are from the same plates as the Roma, A. de'Rossi, 1739 edition. Extremities rubbed, corners worn, minor age-toning.
