[London: The Ballantyne Press], 1902. Three volumes. Small folio. Original orange cloth, with pictorial stamping and lettering in black. Frontis in each volume. Cloth a bit darkened and hand-soiled, large bookplate in each volume of Robert William Rogers, tips a bit rubbed, otherwise a very good, sound set, largely unopened. First edition. This is denoted the "Publick Edition" -- there was evidently a "luxurious" issue on better paper, smartly bound. A serial anthology, with the contents physically emulating issues of Johnson's RAMBLER, but with no indication that the constituent "issues" had any independent circulation. Some of the contributions appear over probable pseudonyms, but others are attributed to Mabel Beardsley, Richard Le Gallienne, Charles Dilke, et al. There are reviews of current books, some Johnsonian pastiches, as well as a couple of rather critical notices of Kipling. (Inventory #: WRCLIT58492)
