First edition of the first Tibetan grammar in French; 8vo, pp. xxxii, 231, [1]; original yellow printed wrappers; fore-edge of the front wrapper reinforced on the verso, the text very lightly foxed; all else very good and sound. A 12" x 9½" student's worksheet in Tibetan, signed "F. M. / 1955" is laid in. Foucaux (1811-1894) taught at the École des langues orientales where some of his students included William Woodville Rockhill and Alexandra David-Néel. He was the first professor of Tibetan in all of Europe.
