Richmond, VA: Dietz Press, 1946. Small Octavo. 362p. Republished from the second edition og 1860. A remarkable picture of Antebellum Richmond with long descriptions of its principle residences, the plight of the merchant class [with young men expected to practice celibacy and work long hours], the harsh punishment of miscreants as well as the black aristocracy [a description for slaves who had jobs in the finest homes]. Probably no book so depicts the South that five years later would be gone forever. A clean bright copy bound in gilt decorated black cloth lettered in gilt,, spine gilt. previous owner's name. A very good copy. (Inventory #: 012129)
