Chicago, ILL: Hoosier Hot Shots, 1938. First Edition. Quarto. 30.5cms. Publisher's decorative printed paper wraps, magazine format. 48pp. Light dog-earing and creasing to extremities, some minor soiling and ink spotting to the wraps, some chipping to spine panel, but no appreciable loss; internally clean. A very good copy with light wear.
A collection of musical numbers, photographs, and band 'lore' in the form of captions and humorous tableaux. The band, originally formed in Indiana, got their name after turning up late to a radio performance and earning the annoyance of the announcer, who snapped "Get in there, you Hoosier Hotshots!" and the title stuck. The band had a 40 year career on stage, radio, and screen, mainly characterized by novelty numbers that were catchy and could be danced to, but with titles like "From the Indies, to the Andes, in his Undies." there wasn't much danger of their snappy, comedy jazz being taken seriously. Having said that, dominating the domestic novelty circuit in the 1940's and 50's was not something to be sniffed at. (Inventory #: 84009)
