Boards rather scuffed and worn at corners and spine ends, scattered foxing to textblock (evidently complete despite error in pagination), a few gatherings unopened, else Very Good and sound. Quaritch invoice for this volume dated 1935 laid in.

Quite scarce study of lamplight during the Roman era, including sections on artificial light used in religious ceremonies and at meals. Concludes with an examination of a Roman lamp unearthed in Grand, in the Vosges department, known as a major archaeological site.
