Scenario: The Magazine of Screenwriting Art (Winter 1996) [includes BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK]
by Lippy, Tod, ed.
New York: RC Publications Inc.. Very Good+. 1996. (Vol. 2, No. 4). Periodical. NOISBN . [clean but slightly worn copy, short diagonal creasing at corners of front cover, individual script titles faded from spine (you wouldn't have known unless I told you, or you had another copy to compare it to)] Complete screenplays in this issue are: TIN CUP (John Norville and Ron Shelton); CITIZEN RUTH (Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor); BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK (Millard Kaufman); THE DREYFUS AFFAIR (Peter Lefcourt; an unproduced screenplay based on his novel); TILL HUMAN VOICES WAKE US (winner of the magazine's first annual Student Screenplay Competition, co-sponsored by the Writers Guild of America, East Foundation). Following the magazine's usual format, each script is followed by interview(s) with its writer or writers. Particularly interesting (well, to me at least) is the material regarding THE DREYFUS AFFAIR, an as-yet unproduced screenplay about two Major League baseball players who fall in love -- with each other -- and the ensuing hullaballoo when their affair is revealed; I've long been a fan of Lefcourt's, and if his script is half as funny as his book, it should have been a movie by now! (No doubt it's out there somewhere in Hollywood, in turnaround limbo.) . (Inventory #: 14959)
