THE DEATH OF MEN OF VIRTUE AND USEFULNESS DESERVES GREAT LAMENTATION. A SERMON, DELIVERED AT THE NORTH MEETING-HOUSE IN HARTFORD, ON THE LORD'S DAY SUCCEEDING THE DECEASE OF CAPT. DANIEL GOODWIN, WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE, JANUARY 7, 1772, IN THE LXVIITH YEAR OF HIS AGE
1772 · Hartford
by Patten, William
Hartford: Watson, 1772. 25pp, untrimmed, half title and rear blank leaf laid down. Outer blank margin of leaf 7-8 repaired, a couple of other repairs. A bit unsightly but complete, without loss of text. Contemporary signature of Allyn Goodwin laid down on verso of half title; M. Wm. Goodwin Jnr's signature on half title. Good.
A rare American imprint, NAIP locating copies only at AAS and three other institutions. An upbeat view of death is prescribed in this sermon on Goodwin, with whom Patten unfortunately had a "very transient acquaintance."
