Alger an icon of the influential 19th C Rags-to-Riches tale, who authored over 100 novels, achieving over 20,000,000 copies published, who is perhaps best remembered today by his 'Peter Parley to Penrod' story, Ragged Dick, which was first published in 1867. These two pieces herein constitute Alger's first 2 appearances in print, when but a lad of 17.
