THIRTEEN AUTHOR COLLECTIONS OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AND FIVE CENTURIES OF FAMILIAR QUOTATIONS
1950 · New York
by Wilson, Carroll A.
New York: Privately Printed for Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950. Two volumes. Cloth, t.e.g. A couple of minor rubs to cloth, else fine in stained but intact slipcase. First edition. Edited by David A. Randall and Jean C.S. Wilson. One of 375 numbered sets. The model for an author collection catalogue, due in no small part to the astute editor. It is to be regretted, however, that the much more extensive annotations for each item that exist in Wilson's own typescript catalogues of his author collections were not included here. Alcott, Emerson, Hardy, Hawthorne, Irving, Longfellow, Melville, Poe, Thoreau, Trollope, Whittier and Holmes delineated - the section of Familiar Quotations, while still useful, seems to have outlived its era. Accompanied by a fine copy of the BSA 1948 memorial booklet, CARROLL A. WILSON 1886 - 1947 (1/1300 copies). (Inventory #: WRCLIT41509)
